New York Psychologists and Licensed Clinical Social Workers at Behavioral Medicine Associates (BMA) provide specialized psychological services including evaluation (psychological and neuropsychological, if needed), treatment, cognitive rehabilitation and pain management to injured workers through the New York State Workers’ Compensation Program.  BMA also provides these services to NY residents involved in motor vehicle accidents through no-fault insurance.

Typically, the emphasis is on the diagnosis and treatment of a worker’s physical injuries; the psychological injuries they sustained are often overlooked or minimized.  These psychological issues need to be addressed: effects of chronic pain, anxiety disorders (post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and specific phobias) depression, sleep disorders, adjustment disorders, anger issues, psychosocial problems, relationship issues, caregiver distress, work problems, grief and loss, and difficulty coping with disability and injury.

To treat these psychological problems, the therapists at Behavioral Medicine utilize techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), desensitization, exposure therapy, self-instructional training, relaxation training, meditation, mindfulness training and psychosocial support.  These treatments provide skills and concrete behavioral techniques that can be used to regain behavioral and emotional functioning.

BMA is dedicated to providing the injured worker with the most effective program of care.  Helping an injured man or woman return to work, enabling them to maintain their dignity and sense of self-respect, is one of our most important missions.
